Volunteer Opportunities For Senior Citizens!

Spring is just around the corner, and it's time to get out and get involved in your community! We LOVE our senior citizens, and Happy Trails provides plenty of volunteer opportunities for seniors! Kep as busy as you want to by helping out as a tour guide, meeting and greeting visitors, working in the office, driving small animals in pet porters to the vet, weeding spring flower beds or returning phone calls. 52 Thoroughbreds Were Destined For Sugarcreek After Their Owner Passed Away

We received no less than 150 emails and phone calls from folks who were concerned about the 52 Thoroughbred horses that were destined for the Sugarcreek Auction after their owner recently passed away. The outpouring of concern for these animals shows the amazing level of compassion that is out there. However, I'd like to remind everyone that between 250 and 300 other horses are run through the Sugarcreek Auction every weekend, and that there are plenty of horses already in rescue groups in need of your passion and help. On behalf of horse rescue organizations, I'd like to offer this commentary on the situation and ask you to share!

"Animal Talk" Radio Program Archives Will Still Be Available

Like many other non-profit organizations, Happy Trails is being very careful with our financial resources. At this time as we trim our budget, we have decided to temporarily discontinue "Animal Talk", the Happy Trails radio program. The archives will still be available through our website, so please enjoy listening to our past segments from this last year! Harold The Duck — What Can We Learn From Him?

On Tuesday, January 19th, a very sweet, white Pekin male duck was brought to Happy Trails by his rescuer. The duck had been found starving and freezing to death in the snow. This domestic duck had been dumped on an open pond. Let's have Harold's situation teach everyone why it's so important NOT to purchase cute little baby ducks and chicks for Easter.

Stautzenberger College Hosts Class At Happy Trails!

Twenty vet tech students and their instructors from Stautzenberger College flooded the sanctuary at Happy Trails on Monday, June 8th, to listen to respiratory rates, take temperatures, hear intestinal sounds, and delice chickens. Ask any student — it was a long four hours!

A Tribute To Polly, A Beautiful Palomino Mare, From Her Adoptive Mom

On Wednesday, June 3rd, Timi Sullivan sadly said good-bye to her adoptive Happy Trails rescued horse who brought much joy into her life and the lives of all those around her. Timi wrote this article about Polly in one of her many columns before Polly crossed Rainbow Bridge, so it's an article celebrating her life and the people in it.

Sugarcreek Auction In The News Again — This Time USDA Fines Auction Owner, Leroy Baker

Well-known for it's cruelty to animals and horses in particular, the Sugarcreek Auction once again made newspaper and television headlines by receiving a $162,800 fine from the USDA for violations of animal safety regulations.
